Dale Edward Basel of Gladwin, Michigan passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He was born in Rogers City, Michigan on January 1, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Basel and Elsie Clara (Kreft) Basel, brother Earl Basel, and sister Norma Flowers. Dale is survived by his wife of 64 years Eleanor (Roth) Basel and several nieces and nephews.
Dale attended St. John’s Lutheran School of Rogers City and graduated from Rogers City High School in 1947. He also attended Central Michigan University and Northeastern School of Commerce of Bay City, Michigan where he met his wife. He was a military veteran of three years in the Army, having served in Korea and Japan from 1952-1955, attaining the rank of Sgt.
He was very active in most sports while going to school and continued to participate for many years, especially basketball and fast-pitch soft ball. Dale enjoyed playing golf, riding his bike, and working in his garden.
He worked as an office assistant at Dow Chemical, Midland until August of 1968 and then his wife opened a Sears Roebuck Catalog Agency in Gladwin, Michigan. He also opened and managed a Sears Agency in Evart, Michigan and a Montgomery Ward Agency in Gladwin, Michigan. After retiring from the Montgomery Ward Agency in 1985, the next 30 winters were spent in Naples, Florida.
