Thelma Bast, 83, of Gaylord

Mrs. Thelma Ann Bast, 83 of Gaylord, Michigan died peacefully surrounded by her family on the early morning of October 25, 2022. She was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by her husband, Bernard and son, Trevor.

Thelma was born in Warren, Ohio on January 27, 1939, to the late, John and Margaret (Hovanic) Susko. She married Bernard on April 2, 1967, and together they celebrated 55 years of marriage before his passing in June of 2022. She earned her Bachelors degree in Nursing and Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Duquesne University and worked as a Registered Nurse and Nursing Instructor.

Thelma was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She loved to sing and play the guitar and piano in her younger years. She enjoyed woodcarving and was a member of the Northwoods Carving Club. She loved sewing and arts and crafts. Thelma was a woman of faith and one of her favorite things to do was pray. She is and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Molly Bast of Gaylord; Greg (Darcy) Bast of Saline; grandchildren, Mara and Gavin; brother, Bernard (Bonnie) Susko of Akron, Ohio; sister-in-law, Jane Bast of Brunswick, Ohio; and four nieces and nephews, Jenna Susko, Jacob Susko, Michael Petracco, and Mark (Beth) Petracco. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Susko; husband, Bernard; son, MSG Trevor Bast, U.S. Army; and siblings, Theodore Susko, Reverend Monsignor Martin Susko, and Martha (Susko) Petracco.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bast took place Friday, October 28, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Lewiston; Fr. Al Pillarelli officiating. Internment was at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in memory of Thelma.
