Steve Barkway, 78, of Houghton Lake

Stephen Charles Barkway of Houghton Lake, loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away October 18, 2022, with his wife by his side.

Steve was born August 24, 1946, in Hudson, MI, the son of Lowell and Ola Barkway. He was the Captain and the Quarterback of his Hudson High School team, one of the most storied football programs in Michigan. He was also the Class President. He married the love of his life, Joyce (Frederick) Barkway in 1966, and the two spent the next 56 years raising their boys, travelling together, and simply enjoying life together. Steve was a veteran, serving in the Army for two and a half years and was stationed in Frankfort, Germany during the Vietnam War. He went on to work for Consumer’s Energy for 30 years before his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; Sons, Chad Barkway of Houghton Lake, and Brent (and Jennifer) Barkway of Tarpin Springs, FL. He fell madly in love, for the second time in his life, when his granddaughter Emily was born. She held a very special place in his heart and Emily adored her Poppa.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place with a remembrance luncheon to follow on November 20, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Houghton Lake Eagles Club.
