Don Yates, 83, of Prescott

Donald Walter Yates, of Prescott, Michigan, passed away peacefully at Sherman Glen Manor in National City, Michigan on Friday, September 9, 2022, age 83 years.

Don was born to the late Walter P. and Esther A. (Harmon) Yates in Saginaw, Michigan on October 20, 1938.  He graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1956 and soon after married his high school sweetheart, Joann (Kaszubowski) Yates on June 7, 1958.  The couple celebrated 63 beautiful years of marriage until Joann’s passing in 2019. Don worked for 35 years as a Welding Forman with the Magline Corporation in Pinconning. In 1995, Don was finally able to step away from his many years of hard work and begin to enjoy his well-deserved retirement! He kept busy with wood working and gardening. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially fishing.  Above all, Don absolutely cherished the time he got to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren!  Don will truly be forever cherished by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his 3 children, Danny (Maureen) Yates of Lapeer, Pam (Doug) Fisher of Lapeer, and Terry (Sharon) Yates of Tawas City; 6 grandchildren, Mandi Lane, Micki (Mike) Nacy, Tiffany Fisher, Jeff Fisher, Amber (Jonah) Hinkley, and Jamie Yates; 9 great grandchildren, Alexandria and Billy Lane, Zak, Lukas, and Sebastian Nacy, Allee and Shaylee Smith, and Jace and Tilly Fisher.  Don is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Yates, his beloved wife, Joann Yates, and a daughter, Laurie Yates.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 16, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Buresh Funeral Home in Prescott, Michigan with Pastor Doug Kennedy officiating.  Don’s family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  He will be laid to rest in the Richland Cemetery in Prescott, Michigan.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial are encouraged to make a donation to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association in Don’s honor.
