Wayne Hall, 95, of Higgins Lake

Wayne L. Hall, age 95, of Higgins Lake, passed peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at his home in the presence and comfort of his family.

Wayne was born August 2, 1926, in East Detroit, Michigan, the son of Phillip and Donna (Bearss) Hall.

Wayne married Norma Jean “Mickey” Fulmer on June 19, 1948, in East Detroit, Michigan.

Wayne was a proud veteran, having served his country during World War II and the Korean War in the United States Army.

Wayne graduated from Michigan State University, Police Administration, with Honors, in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theater as a Military Police Officer. He returned to Michigan and began his career as a Security Officer at the Ford Motor Company. Wayne was promoted several times, ultimately being named as the Security Director for Ford Motor Company, Worldwide. As the top security executive, he was responsible for Physical Security, Fire Protection, Investigations, and Executive Protection for Ford facilities in 30 countries with 250 million square feet of factory space and 400,000 employees.

He has served as Assistant Adjunct Professor and on the Michigan State University Criminal Justice Alumni Board of Directions. He was the first person awarded the Certified Protection Professional (CPP#001) designation by the American Society for Industrial Security (A.S.I.S) and the Provost Marshall General Award. Wayne has served as president of the A.S.I.S. and was Inducted into the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice Wall of Fame in 2003.

Wayne was as successful in his personal life as he was in his career. Marrying his high school sweetheart, Mickey, they celebrated 69 years together, raising two sons, being blessed with three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His role as Great Grandpa Wayne brought him so much joy in his final years. Wayne was a passionate resident of Higgins Lake for 85 years, serving on the boards of H.L.P.O.A and Shoppenagons Lodge. He enjoyed bowling and loved the outdoors, boating and playing golf. In retirement he called himself a 66er, 6 months at Higgins and 6 months in Naples, FL.

He will be remembered for his incredible mind and his stories of his life experiences. He was a man so many loved to listen to. Just when we thought we had heard all his stories, out came another one! The last few months of his life we read to him the letters he wrote to his parents as an 18–19-year-old serving overseas. What a treasure to come across. He said he had to make them newsy because they were shared with the neighborhood, always signing them, Your Loving Son, Wayne.

Wayne will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his sons: Phillip Wayne Hall of Naples, Florida, and David Gene (Mary) Hall of Higgins Lake, Michigan; grandchildren: Jennifer (Tyler) Pierce, Kristopher (Sarah) Hall, Jeffrey (Devin Williams) Hall; great-grandchildren: Cameron Wayne Pierce, Gabriel Gene Pierce, Hudson Nolan Hall; lifelong friends Margaret Bylen and Leola McDoniel, dear friends Cris Criscuoli and Don Walker; special buddy at The Brook Jack Newman, as well as many other friends and family. David, Mary, and Phil would like to thank the incredible staff of The Brook of Houghton Lake who became his extended family with the loving and caring environment they provided the past 8 months. He left his earthly existence surrounded by love.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Norma Jean.

Family and friends will gather from 11:00-1:00 PM on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, 143 Lake Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653. The Funeral will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, July 24, 2022, also at the funeral home. Dr. Dave Hansen will be officiating.
