Rita was born January 29, 1938, in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of Alva and Jane (Walker) Lone.
Rita was an active and devout member of Higgins Lake Baptist Church. Through her faith, she had great influence on many students during her time as a dorm sponsor at Marion College. Rita was an avid Mah Jongg player and enjoyed many other table games with her friends and family. She enjoyed watching all sports, especially college sports and professional football, passionately. Above all, Rita took great pleasure from spending time with family and friends, and rejoiced in their accomplishments.
Rita loved the outdoors, and was proud of having walked across the state of Michigan at the age of ~40! Rita was well-travelled, having visited 48 states and 10+ countries, including presenting at a professional conference in Singapore. She also loved lighthouses, birds and dark chocolate.
Rita wanted everyone to know she had a good life that she was grateful for. She is survived by her sister, Mary Jane Dawson; nieces: Velita, Vicky, Lori, and Callie; nephews: John, Scot, and Rodney; many great-nephews and nieces; as well as several great-GREAT nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Worl Dean Lone and Alva Dale Lone.
Rita’s family has chosen to remember her privately at this time. Rita chose to donate her body to medical research at the University of Michigan. A Memorial Service will be held later this summer.
The family prefers memorial contributions be made in Rita’s name to the Crawford County Commision on Aging. Their website is: crawfordcoa.org
