Lynn ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson, 87, of Roscommon

Lynn Richard Hutchinson, age 87, of Roscommon, died on Monday, February 28, 2022, in Traverse City.

Lynn, also known as “Hutch”, was born February 3, 1935, in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Walter Hutchinson and Lillian Halsema.

Lynn married Peggy on June 7, 1991, in the chapel at Hartwick Pines State Park, Grayling, Michigan. They were happily married for almost 31 years.

Lynn was a proud Korean War veteran, having served in the United States Air Force as a ground control approach radar operator. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. While serving in the military, he enjoyed playing basketball, boxing, and fastpitch softball. He also got to meet and get a kiss from the movie star, Angie Dickinson, a fond memory he was happy to share about his time in the service.

Lynn enjoyed staying busy with everything involving the outdoors in Northern Michigan. He loved to go fishing on the boat and on the ice. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, and bowling. Lynn really enjoyed turkey hunting and will be remembered for being an exceptional turkey caller.

When Lynn was younger, he loved competitive snowmobile racing. He enjoyed playing pool and shuffleboard. Lynn will be remembered for his passion of woodworking, building and creating anything with wood. Lynn retired in 1992 after 35 years of service from the Parks and Recreation Division of the Department of Natural Resources as a District Supervisor. He was well respected and loved by his family, friends, and colleagues. Honest To God.

Lynn will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy; children: Susan (Worth) Patrick, Carolyn (Rick Budnyk) Kehl; Karen (Robert Vaughn) Coleman; step-children: Kevin (Amanda) Coors; Connie (Vijay) Sargunam; grandchildren: Chris, Amanda, William, Joslyn, A.J., Logan, Anna, Anika, Norah; great-grandchildren: Adien, Adrianne, Kody, Emily, Olivia, Abel; as well as his Auntie Lee (Lee Halsema), and many friends.

Lynn is preceded in death by his parents, his baby brother Edmond E. Hutchinson, who died at four-and-a-half months, his Uncle Jr. (Martin Halsema Jr.), and his grandson Steven.
