Frederick Fernholz, 92, of St. Helen

Frederick Arthur Fernholz, age 92, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at his home in St. Helen, MI. He was born on December 8, 1929 in Fowler, MI to Arthur and Barbara (Schafer) Fernholz.

Frederick lived in St. Helen since 1985 formerly of St. Johns, MI. He married Louise Tilford on August 21, 1954 in Fowler.


Frederick graduated from Fowler High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for Federal-Mogul and retired at the age of 55. He was a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church and was a 3rd degree knight with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed sports, bowling, hunting, and feeding the birds and wildlife. Frederick loved spending time with his family, granddaughter, and great granddaughter.

Frederick is survived by his loving wife, Louise Fernholz of St. Helen; son, Joseph (Susan) Fernholz of St. Johns; granddaughter, Sara Fernholz of Elsie, MI; great granddaughter, Bristol Sabo of Elsie, MI; siblings, Mary Schmitt of St. Johns, Luke (Maggie) Fernholz of Lake George, MI, Susie Schroder of St. Johns, and Barbara (Stan) Simon of Pewamo, MI; brother-in-law, Tom Tilford; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Claude Fernholz, Margaret Archer, Winifred McKean, and Gertrude Smith, and brothers-in-law, Dick Tilford, Dave Schroder, Ed Schmitt, Harold Cole, Alan Smith, Dugley McKean, Joe Archer, and sisters-in-law, Donna Fernholz and Marie Fernholz.

Visitation at St. Helen Catholic Church will begin on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Father Jerry Hunko will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.
