David Norman Austin, age 69, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI. He was born on October 11, 1952 in Flint, MI to Robert A. and Marie E. (Sprenger) Austin. David was affectionately called “Bumpa” by many who knew him.
David lived in St. Helen, MI since 2006 formerly of Millington, MI.
On April 17, 1976 he married Colleen B. McKeage in Roscommon, MI. David was a Master Mason and life member of the Mt. Morris Masonic Lodge #535. David was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in West Branch. He was also a Guardian with Job’s Daughters.
David helped start the youth football organization in Millington and served on the board for many years. He was active in youth baseball serving on the board and coaching for many years. David Retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, doing for others, and most of all his grandchildren. He went to their sporting events, and every school function possible.
David is survived by his loving wife, Colleen Austin, children, Jessica Wiacek, Nathan (Alana Leach) Austin, and Morgan Austin. His grandchildren Baleigh Bellor, Reese Austin, Grace Austin, Keira Wiacek, Chase Wiacek, Skyler Wiacek, and Harleigh Leach. As well as his sister Linda (Robert) Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Robert (MaryAnn) Austin, Jerry (Barbara) Austin, and Jeffrey Austin.
A funeral service will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 1:00pm with visitation starting at 11:00am. Pastor Ken Peterson will officiate, with a Masonic Service to follow. A celebration of life, social gathering, will be held at a later time at Lake St. Helen.
