Clayton Larry Shirkey, Sr., age 84, of Au Gres, Michigan passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his home.
Clayton was born September 13, 1937 in Au Gres, Michigan to the late Alfred and Mae (Doan) Shirkey. He graduated from Au Gres High School in 1955. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1962 as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division.
He worked a few odd jobs before joining General Motors in 1965, where he would work for 25 years until his retirement in 1990. In his younger years, Clayton enjoyed camping, hunting, ice fishing and softball. In his later years, he would enjoy spending time with family and friends.
Clayton is survived by his sons Clayton (Karlene) Shirkey, Jr., Craig (Sandra) Shirkey, daughters Jennifer (Duke) Thomas, Leslie (Paul) Rizzo, Julie (Mark) Wing, daughter-in-law Sandra Shirkey; sister Faye Garry; grandchildren Amanda, Ian, Alexandria (Chris) Lewis, Chandler, Landon, Allison, Tony, Shada, Mary; great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Raiden; numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. In addition to his parents, Clayton was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Kinney) Shirkey; brothers Leonard, John, Bill, Donnie; sisters Shirley, Joan; and grandson Billy.
The family will welcome friends at Buresh Funeral Home in Au Gres, MI on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 10 am with funeral services beginning at 12 noon. A private interment will take place at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
