William George “Bill” Meyers, 82, of Houghton Lake

William George “Bill” Meyers, 82, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday June 8, 2021 at his home.

Bill was born on June 26, 1938 in Monroe, Michigan to Lynn and Mildred (Sheets) Meyers. He grew up in the Monroe area where he graduated from Monroe High School. He then served in the Army for four years. While spending time at West Point he was a pitcher on the Army baseball team. On December 9, 1967 in Cheboygan, Bill was married to Mary Lou Brazil. Bill attended the University of Michigan School of Banking, to further his career in banking. He was a Senior Vice President of Operations for Monroe Bank and Trust for many years until his retirement. The couple moved from Monroe to the Houghton Lake area over 30 years ago. Bill enjoyed all the outdoor activities that Michigan has to offer, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and just enjoying the outdoors. However to say he was an avid golfer would be understating the fact he lived at the golf course. He was a scratch golfer and loved being at the Redwood Golf Course and in his earlier years in Monroe he would spend his time at the Green Meadows Golf Course. He traveled Michigan playing at many courses in the state.

Surviving Mr. Meyers are his son, Scott(Karolyn Gagnier) Meyers of Taylor; daughter, Chris (Myrlin) Wrege of Higgins Lake; six grandchildren, Allie (Steven), Asia (Spencer), Keegan, Isaac, Shane, and Konner; and brother, Rob Meyers of Topinabee. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and wife Mary Lou.

Celebration of Life Services for William George Meyers will be conducted by the family.  Memorial contributions in memory of Bill are asked to be directed to the Roscommon County Animal Shelter. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
