Peter McNicholl, 87, of Hale

Peter Joseph McNicholl, age 87 of Hale, passed away at home, under the care of his family along with hospice, on June 25, 2021.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Evelyn. Loving children, Debra (Larry) Kuhn of Hale; Janette (Danny) Smith of Hale; Chris (Monica) McNicholl of Hale and Deana (Jeff) Nichols of Hale. Grandchildren, Kristie (Ron) Heal of Hale; Michelle Kuhn of Hale; Justin (Katie) Smith of Tawas City; Quentin (Melissa) Smith of Rogers City; Alan McNicholl, Jesse (Melissa) McNicholl of Lupton, Natasha (Brian Gottlieb) Nichols of San Diego, CA; Dylan (Annamarie May) Nichols of Alpena and Catriana Nichols of Hale. Great-grandchildren, Karly Heal of Hale; Kyle Heal of Hale; Ryan Heal of Hale; Hunter, Timber, River Smith of Tawas City; Jesse McNicholl, II and Aubree McNicholl of Lupton; Victoria and Elizabeth Nichols of Alpena and Zachary, Bentley and Michael Smith of Roger City. Siblings, Patricia (Ron) Kage of Clinton Township; Cynthia (Fred) Voelker of Montgomery, TX and Tom McNicholl of Roscommon. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Peter Joseph McNicholl was born on February 27, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Gerald James and Emma (Filipkowski) McNicholl. He attended Clawson High School where he was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Chrysler Technology. Pete worked as a Postal Carrier in Royal Oak before becoming an engineer for Chrysler. He was one of the original Ram Charger’s who designed the infamous High & Mighty. Pete also raced independently and was known as the Slant Six Kid. Pete was a Professor at Kirtland Community College in the 1970’s. He was the owner / operator of Scenic Shores Resort, founder / co-owner of American Pleasure Products (Aqua Cycle) and owner / operator of Pro Welding. Pete enjoyed being a private pilot. He was a member of the Rods & Relics Car Club and has been inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame. He enjoyed practical jokes, classic Mopar automobiles, car shows, hunting, fishing, birdwatching, the great outdoors and twitching Evelyn’s nose.

Per his wishes, Pete has been cremated. A Celebration of Life Service will be announced and held at a future date.
