Thelma J. Steepe of Houghton Lake

Thelma J. Steepe, 74, of Houghton Lake passed away March 25, 2017 at King Nursing and Rehabilitation Community with her family by her side.

Thelma was born on March 7, 1943 in Marion to Walter and Elinor (Henry) Bigford. She grew up in the Houghton lake area where she graduated from High School.

Mrs. Steepe was employed as an LPN for Flint Osteopathic Hospital and later she worked as a realtor in Millington. She was married in 1961 in Houghton Lake to Joseph Stuart and in 1971 she was married in Saline to Richard Steepe.

She was preceded in death by both husbands. She was a member of the Houghton Lake Eagles, Red Hat Ladies, and Houghton Lake Community of Christ Church. Thelma was very outgoing enjoying camping, snowmobiling and motorcycling in her younger days and then painting and crafting in the later years. She was an accomplished musician with the piano, accordion, and guitar, and loved to Polka.

Thelma is survived by her son, Kendall Steepe of Houghton Lake; three grandsons, Ryan (Melissa) Steepe of Millington, Justin (Sara) Steepe of Port Huron, and Austin (Katelynn) Steepe of Drummond Island; eight great grandchildren; sisters; Dora (Dale) Collins of Millington, Norma Blodgett of Houghton Lake, JoAnn (Gary) Nowland of Marion, brothers; Emmet Bigford of Montana, Duane (Vicky) Bigford of Houghton Lake, Richard (Nadine) Bigford of Marion; sister-in-law Patricia Bigford of Houghton Lake and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, two husbands, brother Jon Bigford and brother-in-law Terry Blodgett.

Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday March 30, 2017 at Houghton Lake Community of Christ Church, 7622 Stone School Road, Houghton Lake. The family will greet friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions in memory of Thelma are asked to be directed to the family. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
