Shirley A. Laginess, 81, of Houghton Lake, passed away July 30, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Lansing with her loving family by her side.
Shirley was born on November 20, 1934 in Detroit, where she grew up and graduated from Detroit Western High School. She and Daniel K. Laginess Sr. were married on August 8, 1953 in Detroit.
She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving as a board member, choir member, and church secretary. She was also an active member, and Past President, of the Houghton Lake Lioness Club.
Surviving are her three daughters, Patricia (Louis) Ensing of Virginia Beach,VA, Barbara (Randy) Lockhart of Live Oak, Florida, and Laurie (Steve) Cooper of Lansing; two sons, Daniel Laginess Jr. of Houghton Lake, and Mark (Holly) Laginess of Sevierville, TN.; 15 grandchildren, Aimee and Kevin Sullivan, Sherry Lane, Angie Laginess, DJ Lockhart and Karen, Mark Laginess Jr., Jennifer Almodovar, Nikki Fishell, Jason and Sarah Ensing, Danielle Laginess, Chris Ensing, Wendy Ensing, Kayla Cooper, Cody Lockhart, Kyle Lockhart, Megan Cooper and Zach; and 11 great-grandchildren, Gage Sullivan, Jessica Ensing, Aiden Locht, Brianna Fishell, Jasmine Ensing, Logan Almodovar, Daemon Locht, Daniel Almodovar, Jordan Fishell, Shane Lockhart, and Aubry Ensing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Laginess Sr. and her mother, Gladys Smith.
Visitation is August 4 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel. The funeral service is at 11 a.m. August 5 from St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. William Winter officiating. Interment will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West, Westland.
