Virginia B. Weatherwax of Houghton Lake

Virginia B. (Morgan) (Ratza) Weatherwax, 94, of Houghton Lake died July 23, 2016 at home with her loving family.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. July 29 at St. Hubert Catholic Church, 7612 W. Higgins Lake Drive, Higgins Lake, followed by graveside services at Flint Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Morris, at 3:30 p.m. Visitation welcomed from 9 a.m. until mass at St. Hubert, Fr. Bernard Tyler officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to Project Hope, Camp Cobeac, Hospice of Helping Hands, or Spring Hill Camp, Evart, MI.

Virginia was born in Arbela Township April 20, 1922, the daughter of Leon and Lucy Ratza, being one of 11 siblings. She married John I. Morgan on March 15, 1940 in Angola, Indiana. They were married 28 years residing in Birch Run. She had three children, Janice Ferweda, Janet (Eugene) Williams, John W. (Lorna) Morgan. 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren. In April of 1977 she married Alton J. Weatherwax. She was employed by Buick Motor Company before retiring in 1987 then moving to Houghton lake in 1997. S

Mrs. Weatherwax enjoyed her family, playing cards, cooking, gardening, garage sales, and was an avid bowler and square-dancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Morgan; husband, Alton Weatherwax; son-in-law, Gerald Ferweda; grandchild, Gerald Ferweda Jr.; great -grandchild, John Ferweda; brothers, Walt, Ed, Jay, Virgil, Don, and Carl Ratza; sisters, Mary Bowns and Ruth McQueen; sisters-in-law, Shirley, Helen, Beady, Lillian and Lil Ratza

Surviving are her children, Janice Ferweda, Janet (Eugene) Williams, and John W.(Lorna) Morgan; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jim) Hatfield, Patrick (Karri) Ferweda, Jeffery (Sarah) Ferweda, Cheryl (Robert) Wheeler, Eugene (Cynthia) Williams III, Carrie (Patrick) Fuelling, Wendy (James) Currie; great grandchildren, Shane Hatfield, Ammanda Centilli, Austin Hatfield, Brian (Kaitlyn) Ferweda, Bridget (Jason) Burghardt, Morgan, Evan, Jack, and Paige Ferweda, Jeremiah (Becky) Wheeler, Jacob (Tiffany) Wheeler, Zachary (Shay) Williams, Logan Williams, Alexandria Williams, Tyler Fuelling, Kalyn Fuelling, Clare Currie, great-great-grandchildren, Natalie Wheeler, Chase Wheeler, Avery Wheeler, Faye Williams, and Noah Wheeler.

Also surviving are brothers, Bob (Pauline) Ratza, and Dick (Joyce) Ratza, sister-in-law Dorothy Ratza, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends special thanks to her extended family and friends for always being there for her and them.
