Gerald D. ‘Jerry’ Allison of Roscommon

Gerald D. ‘Jerry’ Allison, 91, passed away May 5, 2016 at his home in Roscommon.

He was born in Ontario, Canada on August 3, 1924, the son of William C. and Pearl (Daniel) Allison, who preceded him in death.

During World War II he served in the Royal Canadian Navy as an Able Bodied-Seaman aboard the HMCS Coaticook doing escort duty throughout the Atlantic Ocean and North Sea.

Following his discharge from the military, he married Janet E. Karinen in Southfield on January 5, 1952. His civilian careers included farming, construction, and carpentry, retiring in 2006. He lived in Milan and Saline before moving to the Higgins Lake area in 1973. A man of faith, he had been a member of Evangelical United Brethren Church in Milan and First Congregational Church in Roscommon. He enjoyed baseball and hockey, and was an avid Tigers and Red Wings fan.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law and his wife, Keith and Gloria Karinen.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Janet; two sons, David Allison of Roscommon and Daniel Allison of Mill Valley, CA; two daughters, Rebecca (Richard) Gagnon of Traverse City and Janet Marie (Victor Jurkowski) Allison of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Gracie and Jacob Jurkowski of Mt. Pleasant, and David (Beth Christensen) Gagnon of Ann Arbor; great grandson, Graham Gagnon; one brother, Eldon (Marion) Allison of Ingersol, Ontario; two brothers-in-law, Lowell (Margaret) Karinen of Roscommon, and Edward Karinen of L’Anse, and many nieces and nephews.

A private service will take place at a later date. Memorials in his name may be made to the charity of the donor’ choice.

Arrangements are being handled by Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon.
