Plans for Family Fishing Fest 2016 underway

ROSCOMMON CO.–The Marketing Committee of the Roscommon County Economic Development Corporation (RCEDC) met to finalize plans for its second annual Family Fishing Fest event that will take place on Free Fishing Weekend June 11.

Playing a big role in this year’s event are the Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce, St. Helen Chamber of Commerce, Lyon Township and the Michigan DNR, including the state parks.

The event will take place on Higgins Lake, with weigh-in at Lyon Township Park; Houghton Lake with weigh in at the south DNR boat launch off M-55; and Lake St. Helen, with weigh-in at the St. Helen boat launch.

“The purpose of the event is two-fold. We created the event to draw attraction to the great fishing on Michigan’s Other Great Lakes, and we want to keep the fishing tradition alive. This event encourages families to teach young ones to fish,” Rosalie Myers, RCEDC executive director said.

“By promoting this free fishing event, we hope the long-lived tradition of family fishing will stay alive and help Roscommon County thrive as a tourist destination.”

Complete details of the event will be published soon. For more information please call the Houghton Lake Area Tourism Bureau at 989-422-2002.
