Gladys May Churchill of Houghton Lake

Gladys May Churchill, 87, of Houghton Lake passed away April 15, 2016 at home with her loving family.

Gladys was born on October 18, 1928 in Grand Rapids to George and Beatrice (Robinson) Newton. She was employed as a bus driver for Bath Community Schools for several years. She was married on July 30, 1948 in Alpena to Newell V. Churchill.

Mrs. Churchill enjoyed quilting, camping, watching her birds and squirrels, playing bingo and cards. Most of all Gladys enjoyed her family and friends, and spending winters in Texas.

Survivingare her four daughters, Diana Keeling of AZ, Geraldine Douglas of Houghton Lake, Patricia Oconnor of Lansing, and Beatrice Churchill of Atlanta; son, Thomas (Lauri) Churchill of Houghton Lake; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two daughters-in-law, Wendy Churchill of Houghton Lake, and Penny Churchill of Laingsburg; two brothers, Herb (Marge) Newton of Otsego and Robert (Gretchen) Newton of Lewiston; two sisters, Eileen (Dennis) Duff of Laingsburg, and Mary (William) Law of Mission, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Newell V. Churchill; son, Lee Churchill; son, Daniel Churchill; granddaughter, Melissa Baker; grandson, Daniel Churchill, Jr.; four sisters, Elizabeth McPherson, Alice Bowden, Agnes Plumley, and Beatrice Herrick; and three brothers, George, Emery, and Bruce.

Funeral Services for Gladys May Churchill were conducted from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Rev. Bryan V. Thompson officiating.

Interment was in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake.

Memorial contributions in memory of Gladys are asked to be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
