Two Roscommon residents perish in head-on collision

HIGGINS LAKE – Two people perished in a two-car accident, according to the Crawford County Sheriff Department.

Sheriff Ryan Swope said in a June 12 release the accident occurred on June 10 about 11:23 a.m. on North Higgins Lake Drive near Majestic Hills.

Swope said two vehicles, a 2021 Ford F-150 drive by a 69-year-old Roscommon man, and a 2007 Jeep driven by an unidentified woman, collided head-on. The collision caused the death of the Roscommon man and a 60-year-old passenger in the Jeep, also from Roscommon.

Gerrish Township Police Chief Brian Hill identified the driver of the truck as Neal Cooley. The passenger in the Jeep, Juanita Tackett, was transported to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Jeep was also transported to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

Crawford was assisted by the Gerrish Township Police Department, MMR, and the Beaver Creek Fire Department.

Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the accident, which is still under investigation.
