Canadian fires cause air quality advisory

NORTHERN MICHIGAN – The Michigan Department of Environment, Gre at Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has issued an air quality advisory for Michigan.

The Air Quality Index is expected to range fro m the UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS level with some hourly concentrations reaching the UNHEALTHY level. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, s hould limit prolonged or heavy exertion. Redu ce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices.

Keep windo ws closed overnight to prevent smoke from ge tting indoors and, if possible, run central air co nditioning with MERV-13 or higher rated filters.
