Man arrested after attempted B & E’

HOUGHTON LAKE – The Roscommon County Sheriff Department reported that a Houghton Lake man was arrested after he was caught inside a home near Houghton Lake Forrest Estates in the Towerhill Road area the morning of Aug. 14.

The 36-year-old man, Stephan Henry Battle, who recently moved to Houghton Lake from Mississippi, was arraigned Aug. 15 in 83rd District Court by Judger Richard Noble on two counts of Home Invasion, First Degree. He is currently incarcerated in the Roscommon County Jail.

Deputies were initially notified of the alleged break ins when they received a call about a dog barking in the downstairs area of one home. When the resident came downstairs they found their home and vehicle had been gone through.

When the victims called the police they indicated their neighbor, an Adult Foster Care Home, had its motion light activated.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the suspect, dressed in black, inside a third home with items allegedly taken from the other two residences. He was arrested at the scene.

Undersheriff Ben Lowe said everyone involved was ‘shaken up’ but no one was injured.

‘We encourage all residents to keep all doors and windows to their homes and vehicles locked, and to keep valuable items out of view,’ Lowe said in a statement.
