New playground installed at Gerrish Township Park

GERRISH TOWNSHIP – Gerrish Township has new playground equipment and swings thanks to a grant from the Roscommon Rotary Club. The Game Time play structure was installed over the weekend at the Gerrish Township Park.

Volunteers from the community came out to help put the structure together under the supervision of Dennis from Sinclair Recreation. This ‘community build’ saved the township thousands of dollars for the project.

The playground cost $53,000 according to Gerrish Township treasurer Leasa Tulgetske.

‘If it wasn’t for Rotary this project wouldn’t be possible,’ Tulgetske said.

Rotary’ grant of $40,000 was the largest single grant ever donated to a project Rotarian Jackie Bertsch said. Members also came out to assist with the build.

In addition, Higgins Lake Landscaping donated their time to dig the 50 to 60 holes needed for the project, and Cornerstone Equipment donated the use of heavy equipment in order to move the playground parts.

‘It was quite a process, but it went smoothly,’ Tulgetske said.

The playground will be ADA accessible once the engineered wood fiber chips are in place. There will be a pathway between the pavilion, swings, and playscape.
