TAWAS CITY– At its May 2025 Board of Directors meeting, the Iosco County Humane Society (ICHS) elected Scott Frank as president and Jim Slaughter as vice-president. Frank, a board member since 2023, previously served as vice-president. Slaughter, who joined the board in April, will oversee development and planning.
They are joined by Sheri Williams, treasurer; Jenny Haglund, secretary; and board members at-large Tanya Nuttall, Linda Friedgen, and Hannah Koroly.
“Founded in 1983 as the Animal Humanitarians of Iosco, ICHS provides shelter, medical care, and adoption services for 400–600 cats and dogs annually,” said Frank. “We care for pets that are abandoned, surrendered, or unclaimed throughout Iosco County.”
Slaughter, a retired nonprofit and fundraising professional, emphasized, “Our work is made possible by the generosity of donors and volunteers. While taxpayer-funded millage offers modest support, most of our income comes from community donations—individuals and businesses alike.”

“There’s so much more we could do with increased funding,” he added.
Community members are encouraged to get involved with ICHS by attending monthly board meetings and participating in adoption and fundraising events. Unless announced otherwise, board meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the ICHS building.
Located at 3881 M-55 in Tawas City, ICHS is a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Proudly serving the community since 1983, it relies on donations and volunteer support.
