IOSCO COUNTY- As most of you know, the gate at the waste site is now operational. We ask your patience as we get familiar with the new procedures. There may be some delays and frustrations, but we will get through this and find our new normal which will include the gate. There may be times when you come in and find the gate up for our operational needs. When the gate is operating, do not “tailgate” in with a person in front of you. The gate will come down, possibly on your vehicle.
We have cameras on site which allow us to see if you swiped your card as well as the program which tracks the use of each card. If you get a replacement card for any reason, your lost card will be deactivated. Each card is tied to your property tax ID number for your parcel and only one card is allowed per parcel as per the program. We have already had an angry patron damage the reader. We have fixed it, but we ask that you please not abuse the equipment. It only costs more money to fix and that is your taxes that we are using to do so. I understand that change is difficult, but it is also necessary to move forward. The waste site is a good thing in our community and as long as we follow the basic rules for use that we have, all will operate and function well. Please be patient and don’t get angry if something isn’t working properly, it is not intentional and it will be fixed shortly.
We are still taking comments on the proposed move of the library and historical museum as discussed in last month’s post. We want to thank those that have responded to this request and will be discussing it more at our May 21 board meeting and any decision will probably occur no sooner than our June 18 board meeting. This should give anyone ample time to comment on this issue before we make any decision.
A correction to last month’s post, as was pointed out to me, the school library was in that location from 1971 when the school opened to when the school closed, which I think was 2010. This would have meant that it operated for 39 years rather than the 50 years that I stated in the article, my bad.
Kudos to the Historical Commission, the Friends of the Library and the Iosco-Arenac District Library for a very successful and well attended “Rosie the Riveter” program on May 13 at the Resource Center. There were over 100 people in attendance including our freshman class from Hale High School. We look forward to more cooperative programs for our community. Keep watching our Eagle Pointe Plaza Facebook page for updates and new programs.
With Spring comes spring flowers and who better to tend them than our Garden Club. They are getting back to the downtown planters in time for Spring rains and are looking for help. Anyone with or without a green thumb is welcome to volunteer. If you are interested, contact Hale Garden Club , PO Box 174, Hale, MI 48739 or call Bev Mason at 989-305-8823.
Consider a membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza. You can come and enjoy pickleball at any time, yoga, cardio drumming, fitness training, walking, or some more intense TOWANDA. Stop in and see Roma about a membership. We have family rates and business/group rates also. We would love to see you. When you’re here stop in on Tuesdays to the Plainfield Township Historical Museum. They also have genealogical workshops, so stop and ask about the next event.
As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me. I am in the office Mon – Fri 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email [email protected].
