CRAWFORD COUNTY- The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center would like to invite you to participate in any of the following activities at our location on 308 Lawndale Street, Grayling:

Dinners are back! – Join the COA Mon.-Thurs. from 4:30-5:30 p.m. for dinner.  This is in addition to our lunch served from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri.

Father’s Day Dinner – Thurs., June 15  from 4:30- 6:00 p.m, the community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center’s dine in Father’s Day Dinner.  On the menu:  BBQ Ribs, Corn on the cob, Load-Baked Potato Salad, Fruit Salad and Cherry Pie.  This meal is Dine In Only!  The cost of the dinner is $6.50 for those under 60 and a suggested donation of $3.50 for those 60 years of age or older.

Birthday Lunch – June 27 from 11:30-12:30 p.m., we celebrate all the birthdays for people in June.  Come eat lunch with us at 11:30 a.m. and stay for Sweet P’s cupcakes and ice cream!

Volunteers Needed – Do you like to drive?  Make a difference every week by delivering meals to our older adults who struggle to maintain themselves at home.  Then we’d love to have you as a volunteer to deliver Meals on Wheels.  Delivery days are Mon., Wed., Fri.,  and you normally drive once per week.  Mileage reimbursement of $0.40 per mile is provided along with detailed orientation.  Join our team.!

Caring for the Caregiver – June 21 from10 – 11:00 a.m. – Whether caring for a spouse, partner, family member, friend, or neighbor, helping someone close to you with daily activities and medical tasks can be difficult. Caregivers often feel guilty and alone and have increased risk of developing depression.  During this workshop we will: explore the many ways informal caregiving affects a caregivers mental and physical health, learn the importance of self-care for caregivers, practice some strategies for self-care and find out resources for learning more about self-care for caregivers.  The class will meet at the Crawford County Commission on Aging, 308 Lawndale St, Grayling.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers – Mondays, June 5-July 17 (Not July 3), 10 – 11:30 a.m.  This class will explore tools for caregivers to take better care of themselves.  Whether caring for a spouse, partner, family member, friend, or neighbor, helping someone close to you with daily activities and medical tasks can be difficult. Caregivers often feel guilty and alone and have increased risk of developing depression. Oftentimes, people don’t get the help they need when dealing with grief, resentment and frustration that comes with caregiving. New to Medicare – Wed., June 28 – 10 a.m.  Attend the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s presentation that will help demystify the issues surrounding Medicare.  Tammy Findlay, Advocacy & Resource Coordinator, will discuss the various parts of Medicare including what is covered or not covered, Medicare Supplement and Prescription Drug Plans, and how Medicare recipients who have low income can get assistance paying for Prescription Drug Plans and the Medicare Part B premium.

First Aid, CPR & AED Certification—July 17 from 1 -5:00 p.m..  Learn how to save a life, valuable skills and current CPR techniques.  AHA Certification & class fee is $40.00.  Register by calling the COA at 989-348-7123.

Deterra Pouch For Safe Drug Disposal – These free drug disposal pouches are easy and safe to use. The COA has pouches available to pick up.  Stop in to get a pouch at:  308 Lawndale Street, Grayling.

Medication Lock Box – Keep your prescription medication safe with a lock box. The COA has medication lock boxes available to pick up.  Stop in to get a box at 308 Lawndale Street, Grayling.

Senior Project Fresh– $25.00 in coupons available starting in June.  Must be a Crawford County resident over the age of 60 with income below $2,248 per month for a single household or $3,040 oer month for a two-person household.  Call Tammy Findlay with any questions 989-348-7123.

Shred & E-Waste Day– Sat. June 10,  from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Crawford County Building parking lot (200 W. Michigan Ave; Grayling).  Bring all your old electronics, computers, printers, scanners, keyboards, dvd players, etc.  Time to clean up!  Shredding from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Donations requested for shredding.

Friends of a Feather – 1st Tues. of the Month, June 6 at  9 a.m.  Quilting and sewing group meets.  – 308 Lawndale Street, Grayling

Bible Study – Every Tues. at 10 a.m.  Ron Larson leads a guided study and discussion surrounding Biblical topics.  – 308 Lawndale Street, Grayling

Mahjong – Every Wed. from 1 -3 p.m.  Mahjong players play this fun and challenging game!  – 308 Lawndale Street, Grayling.

Chess Club – Every Mon. from 1 – 4 p.m. The Checkmate Chess Club invites players to the board. – 308 Lawndale Street, Grayling

Penny Bingo – Thursdays from 1 – 3 p.m..  Bring your pennies to play Penny Bingo.  Except Thurs. the 15th because it moved to Mon., June 12.

Pantry Bingo – Fridays from 1 -3 p.m.  Play bingo for the chance to win pantry items!

Crafting Friends – Fridays from 10 -11:30 a.m. – 308 Lawndale Street, Grayling

Medicine Shoppe Bingo – Thurs., June 1st – 3p.m. Play bingo to win Medicine Shoppe coupons!

Foot Clinic – June 26 from 12 to 3:00 p.m. Appointment required.  The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is offering a Foot Care Clinic.  Appointments are provided by Comfort Keepers where a nurse will soak the feet, trim and file toenails, lotion feet, provide foot care tips, and inspect feet for injury and circulation.  The cost of the service is $25. This payment must be made at the time of booking to secure the appointment. Please bring your own towels (2) and a foot basin to soak feet. Diamond Dancers Line dancing group – Tuesdays 1:30 -2:30 p.m. Frederic Township Hall for beginners or Level 1 led by Ruth Pilon.  Tuesdays 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. 308 Lawndale Street through left side entrance at rear of building.  For Level 2 and 3, Beginner and Intermediate levels.  Led by Maze Stephan and other mentors.

Due to the construction beginning at the New Senior Center Building the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center would like to invite you to participate in any of the following activities and classes at the Devereaux Memorial Crawford County Library.

Zumba Gold – Tues. and Thurs. from 10-11 a.m., Nancy Lemmen and Cindy Johnson instructing.

SilverSneakers – Mon. and Wed. from 10-11 a.m., Rich Ferrigan instructing.

Walk In The Woods
– Resumes in June, September and October with the help of a COA volunteer tea.m..  Their advice and help in setting the schedule plus the letting us know what they need from COA was great!  Thank you Mary, Judy, Bev and Val!

Rules:  Try to Car pool.  Never walk alone.  Be healthy and wise with clothing, sunscreen, health issues, bug spray and water.  Expect to walk for about 90-120 minutes.  Safety first.

– with a DNR interpretive guide.  State DNR Park Pass for your vehicle is needed.
