Frederic man dies in motorcycle accident

FREDERIC – A Frederic man died in a motorcycle accident Friday night.

According to a statement from the Michigan State Police, on May 26, at approximately 6:25 p.m., a motorcycle with a sidecar was traveling southbound on Hiawatha Drive near N. Manistee River Rd in Frederic Township.

The rider, 62-year-old Guy Russell from Frederic was seen by a witness swerving in the roadway before running off to the right, into a ditch near his residence.

Russell was ejected and sustained major life- threatening injuries. He was flown to Munson Hospital in Traverse City where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Russell was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to be a factor.
