OTSEGO COUNTY – After 26 years of service, Sergeant William Priest will be retiring from the Michigan State Police (MSP) effective October 1, 2021.
Sgt. Priest is a 1987 graduate of Hartland High School. He attended Lansing Community College and Michigan State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1992 through 1995. He joined the MSP on September 24, 1995, and graduated from the 113th Trooper Recruit School. He was assigned to the East Tawas Post upon graduation. He also served at the Detroit Post, Mio Detachment, and Gaylord Post as a trooper. He worked at Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement (SANE) as a detective trooper and was promoted to detective sergeant at Strike Team Investigative Narcotics Group (STING) in October 2015. He transferred to the Gaylord Post in March 2020 as a uniform sergeant.
In his spare time, Sgt. Priest enjoys Jiu-Jitsu, golf, and spending time with his wife.
