Snowmobile season just around the bend

MICHIGAN – Mother Nature’s doing her part to get things ready for snowmobiling! And it’s time to get your machines ready for the year. Michigan’s snowmobile season opens Dec. 1, so purchase your snowmobile permit now and be ready to hit the trails all season long! There are 6,000-plus miles of designated trails and thousands more miles of public roads and on public lands (where authorized) to ride on.

Snowmobiles must be registered with the Michigan Secretary of State (unless solely used on private property). Registration is good for three years and funds help support the snowmobile program, which is 100 percent funded by the trail permit dollars.

The trail permit funds pay for trail grooming and signage; bridges, culverts and grading; purchase of new equipment and insurance; trailhead maintenance and more.

Did you know it costs $5.11 to groom one mile of trail? A $48 trail permit pays for 9.4 miles of groomed trail – just once!
