Sending Santa to the Troops

By Rose White

Our Soldiers defend and act as a safety barrier between the dangers of the world. Some of our soldiers who are deployed overseas have no one watching their backs when it comes to daily necessities, especially during the holidays.

Kimberly Peterson found out the hard way when Greg, her husband, was deployed in 2004. After sending her husband package from home, he mentioned that he’s been sharing with other soldiers. Peterson made a decision to find a way to help these soldiers. She has been hosting a bake sale at Family Fare on Veteran’s Day every year since 2004.

The Yellow Ribbon Guard is an organization that sends packages to soldiers without family or if shipping cost are too high. A package cost about $30 to fill with baked items, person hygiene items, and so on and for shipping. If you know of any soldiers deployed or stationed overseas in need of care packages for the holidays: send an email to FPO/APO address to yellowribbonguard@yahoo.com.

Please, consider supporting this wonderful program by sending a check or money order to Yellow Ribbon Guard, PO Box 31, Bay City, MI 48707. Send a soldier a package of love and appreciation, it’s the least we can do.
