Three new Troopers join Michigan State Police in Houghton Lake

HOUGHTON LAKEThe Michigan State Police Houghton Lake Post is proud to announce the addition of three new Troopers.

Trooper Trisha Overby of Flushing, Trooper Joshua Stinson of Royal Oak, and Trooper Cabria Shirley of Morenci were sworn in as Michigan State Troopers at a special graduation ceremony in Lansing. These troopers successfully completed a 26 week Trooper Recruit School prior to graduation.

‘It’ always exciting to see dedicated new troopers joining the post family.’ Said Houghton Lake Post Commander, First Lieutenant Josh Lator. ‘These troopers will be excellent additions to our post family and to the Seventh District team as we serve the great citizens of beautiful Northern Michigan.’

Speaker Gov. Rick Snyder said the graduates have chosen a rewarding career.
‘We wish our newest troopers safety each day. Thank you for dedicating your life to serving and protecting the residents of our great state,’ Snyder said.

As part of the department’ commitment to community outreach and service, the recruits volunteered at Mt. Hope Elementary School, delivered meals for Meals on Wheels, worked in soup kitchens in Ingham County, sorted clothes at Upscale Resale Store in Lansing and exercised with students at Maple Valley High School in Vermontville.

The MSP is actively recruiting for a trooper recruit school anticipated to begin in January; interested candidates should visit www.michigan.gov/mspjobs for more information on how to apply.

Including these new troopers, there are 1,244 troopers assigned statewide.
