MICHIGAN – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced today that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin road and bridge repair projects this week in several counties across the state, including Crawford and Saginaw.
“Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school, and run errands safely,” said Governor Whitmer. “By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired, or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime.”
In Crawford County, MDOT will invest $318,000 to improve the intersection at M-93/I-75 Business Loop (BL)/Old 27/Airport Road, located north of Grayling.
The work will convert the intersection into a four-way stop and includes the installation of new curbs and gutters, asphalt pavement, flashing red traffic signals, signage, and pavement markings. The project, which begins June 9, and is expected to be completed by July 2, is anticipated to support three jobs.
Traffic will be affected by single-lane and shoulder closures, with traffic regulators managing flow. These upgrades aim to reduce crashes, improve overall safety, and enhance traffic operations, particularly during peak travel times.
In Saginaw County, MDOT is investing approximately $1.3 million to resurface M-52 from M-57 north to the southern village limit of St. Charles. This project, expected to support 12 jobs, will begin Monday, June 2, 2025, and is scheduled for completion by Friday, June 27, 2025.
Traffic will be maintained with single-lane closures under flag control. Once completed, the resurfacing will enhance safety and extend the service life of the roadway. The project area includes the communities of St. Charles and Chesaning.
