Aviation Maintenance School receives FAA certification

REGION– The Legacy Aviation Learning Center received its official Air Agency Certificate, under the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA’s rigorous certification process ensures that the organization complies in all respects with the requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations relating to the establishment of an Air Agency and is empowered to operate an approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) with the following ratings: Airframe, Powerplant, Airframe and Powerplant.

Kenneth D. Hinzman, Office Manager, GL09, Grand Rapids Flight Standards District Office, shared, “We are excited for this new school to begin, and are here to help Legacy Aviation through the early years of their development.  Ensuring safety, knowledge, and skills are taught to the FAA standards is critical, and the team here has proven they’re capable.”

The non-profit school is the vision of its co-founders and pilots, Dan & Peg Jonkhoff and Matt & Lauren Golba. Supplying the demand for aviation maintenance technicians nationwide and skilled employment opportunities in the region, Legacy Aviation Learning Center, which borders Traverse City’s Cherry Capital Airport, was dreamt up in 2022.

While most AMTS programs are 18-24 months long, Legacy Aviation offers a 12-month timeline that accelerates a student’s trajectory into the workforce.
