Man leads police on 53-mile chase from Houghton Lake to Marion

HOUGHTON LAKE – According to Roscommon County Undersheriff Ben Lowe, officers were sent to a report of a suspicious female at a vacant residence in Markey Township. Prior to deputies arriving, the caller told dispatch the woman had been picked up by a man, then provided a description of the subjects and the vehicle.

A short time later, deputies located a vehicle matching the description on M-55 in Denton Township and stopped the vehicle for additional motor vehicle violations. The vehicle pulled into a parking lot and stopped. As deputies were approaching the vehicle, the driver sped away driving over grass and curbs to get back onto M-55. Deputies then pursued the vehicle west on M-55.

The pursuit continued into Missaukee County at speeds exceeding 100 mph along M-55. He later turning south on 8 Mile Rd. The fleeing vehicle eventually made it onto M-66 in Osceola County and through Marion.

During the chase, the vehicle slowed, and a female passenger jumped out of the vehicle. The suspect vehicle then continued to flee from pursuing officers.

The chase ended several miles later when the driver ran from the moving vehicle. After a foot pursuit with deputies, the driver was apprehended. The length of the pursuit was approximately 53 miles and covered 3 counties.

Deputies identified the driver as Jesse Stanley Mobley, 37, of Evart. Mobley had several outstanding warrants out of Big Rapids, Reed City, and Osceola County. His drivers license was also revoked.

The Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this incident by Roscommon County Central Dispatch/911, the Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office and Central Dispatch, and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Mobley was arraigned April 26 in 82nd District Court in Roscommon County on Charges of   

Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Driving While License Revoked 2nd Offense, No Insurance, and Unlawful Use of a Registration Plate.
