Gaylord man arrested for assault with intent to do great bodily harm and other charges

OTSEGO COUNTY – On Friday, March 25, 2022, at approximately 12:13 a.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post were dispatched to a report of an assault in progress at a residence on Cartwright Trail in Otsego Lake Township. The victim alleged 45-year-old Matthew Edward McLaughlin had assaulted her. During the assault, he took her phone as she attempted to call 911 and choked her. He fled the residence prior to the troopers’ arrival. An MSP K9 Team responded to the scene and tracked McLaughlin down near Old 27. The K9 was deployed and effectively detained McLaughlin until he was handcuffed by troopers. McLaughlin was lodged in the Otsego County Jail.

McLaughlin was arraigned in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County on one count Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder, one count Interfering with an Electronic Communications Device, and one count Domestic Violence. His bond was set at $10,000 10%.
