Kirtland students show off artwork

By Theresa Ekdom

ROSCOMMON – Kirtland Community College art department held its annual fall art show Dec. 13. The show featured a variety of art types including photography, drawings, computer designed work and sculptures.

Montana Breiholz of Lovells is a student in Drawing 1 class. He is working towards a degree in Foundations in Art Design, and his specialty is realistic rendering. He would like to work in medical illustration or photo renderings. While this is his second year at Kirtland, he never drew in high school. It wasn’t until he started at KCC that he started his artwork.

Shawn Witherspoon of Roscommon is a first year student in Business Management. In addition to his photography, he created a sculpture of a deconstructed piano.

“I really love music and I wanted to do some kind of sculpture piece,” Witherspoon said. “The deconstructed piano, it’s like music. All music is made of seven notes. You can take a song apart, to the seven notes. The combination of notes – that’s what makes the magic.”

Sarah Brown of Mio had a number of her art pieces displayed including her drawings and her digital art.

“Art is my passion,” she said. “I will let it go wherever it takes me.

She would like to concentrate on the fine arts and illustration.
