A high-flying experience for students

By Theresa Ekdom

ROSCOMMON – There was a new type of vehicle at the Roscommon Elementary School Nov. 28. That was the day the REMAX team brought in their hot air balloon.

REMAX’s logo is a hot air balloon. Each local real estate team gets so many trips in the iconic hot air balloon each year. Any unused trips can be donated for a local school presentation, giving the students an opportunity to learn how a hot air balloon works.

The balloon was set up in the gym with a large fan blowing warm air into it. It didn’t fully inflate, but there was enough room for the students to walk inside of the balloon. The balloon pilot, Chuck Walz, gave a presentation and slide show showing pictures taken from the balloon of such places as the Hope College football field in Holland, the Capital building in Lansing, and the Mackinac Bridge.

While the students didn’t leave the ground, the experience was uplifting!
