Northern Michigan under fire watch

REGION – The National Weather Service has issues a Fire Weather Watch for most of the Northern lower peninsula of Michigan.

Counties affected by the watch, which is active through Monday night, include Ogemaw, Iosco, Roscommon, Misaukee, Alcona, Oscoda, Crawford, Kalkaska, Alpena, Montmorency, Otsego, Antrim, Charlevoix, pesque Isle, Cheboygan and Emmet.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are present. Low humidity with dry windy weather make the conditions worse. Fires that start, have the chance to spread quickly in the dry tree’s and brush on the ground.

A burn ban is currently in affect and no permits are being issued in the region. Please be extra careful with bonfires.

If you spot a wildfire, call 911 immediately.
