ROSCOMMON COUNTY– The Roscommon County/Community Emergency Services will be hosting a Blood Drive, Saturday, May 9 at the CRAF Center in Roscommon. The event is sponsored by the Roscommon Sheriff’s Department Victim Service Unit (VSU).
Versiti Blood Center of Michigan will be on hand to accommodate donors. Those not able to give blood may make cash donations.
Currently in Michigan and much of the United States, there is only a two to three supply of blood or blood products, due to storms, accidents, and surgeries. In critical shortage are O negative and O positive, as well as A negative, B negative and platelets.
One emergency surgery can use seven to eight units of blood. Over the months of January to February this year, the national supply declined by 35%, due to high hospital demands.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
