United Way awards 2022 grants

Roscommon County – Roscommon County United Way allocated thirty-five thousand dollars among nine local nonprofit organizations. Every fall businesses and individuals generously donate to the annual United Way campaign. The UW board of directors set the budget from funds collected and nonprofit organizations apply for funding. A committee made up of community members reviewed the applications and recommended amounts to the UW board. 

The following organizations received funding:  Artesia Youth Park, $2,000 for student mentoring, Crawford/Roscommon Child Protection Council, $2,625 for infant car seats, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church-Roscommon Area Food Distribution $1,250 for mobile food truck, Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center, $3,000 for outreach and training,  River House, $2,500 for emergency shelter, Roscommon County Commission on Aging received $10,000 for meals on wheels and respite care, Roscommon County Literacy Council $3,000 for Imagination Library, St Vincent DePaul $5,000 for Helping Neighbors,  and the We Care Shop $5,625 for client aid.  “We are grateful to be able work with these nonprofits that serve our community. Each offers services to families and individuals. They improve the quality of life for everyone. “Commented Cherrie Benchley, Executive Coordinator. To date the Roscommon County United Way has facilitated the disbursement of $138,000 through allocations, the emergency food and shelter program and the Helping ALICE program.
