MSU exploration days: The college experience

ROSCOMMON – For decades teens have converged upon the campus of Michigan State University where they can experience what college life is all about as they participate in 4-H Exploration Days.

Since the 1960s thousands of 4-H members have arrived upon that campus to settle into that dorm room with that old wooden desk and that special hallway smell associated with college education. 4-H Exploration Days at MSU has remained the largest event of its kind and has been replicated across the country so many times, but always on a much smaller scale.

Upon registration, kids sign up for classes, with options ranging from cheesemaking, quilting, Chinese culture, coin collecting, magic tricks, web design, super atomic colliders, and more. Participants often return year after year to meet up with their long-distance friends from across the state.

This three-day event in June each year is an absolute highlight for so many and engages kids in what 4-H is really all about, hands-on learning in a fun setting.

We are especially fortunate to have the Roscommon County 4-H Council that provides a partial scholarship to each of our attendees. If you have not yet given 4-H a try here in Roscommon County, 4-H Exploration Days is the perfect way to dip those toes and give it a spin.
