HALE– American Legion Post #422 in Hale held its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Flag Day 2026, respectfully disposing of worn and damaged American flags according to U.S. Flag Code. Post Commander Mike Adams said the Legion’s flag drop box is heavily used, with flags also brought in from nearby Legions, Eagles and VFW posts. An estimated 300 flags were retired this year through the traditional dignified burning ceremony required by Legion bylaws. Adams, a Navy and Coast Guard veteran, said the ceremony is a meaningful way to honor those who served and the flag they defended.

Post Commander Mike Adams and 1st Vice Commander Julie Streeter fold one flag to be used in the ceremony.  This flag is burned first, followed then by the rest.
