Hale students celebrate Reading Month

Parents and older students watching the Shoebox Parade to end a successful March is Reading Month.

By Chloe Foxall, student

March was reading month! Every March, we have plenty of activities to promote our students to increase their reading. We started March by hosting a special guest, the author of Michigan Chillers; a series of horror novels for children written by author Christopher Wright under the pen name of Johnathan Rand. The original series began in February 2000, with each book taking place in major cities and places in the author’s home state of Michigan. Johnathan Rand visited K-6th grade and talked to them about his books, and even signed a few books.

Throughout the month, various activities took place centered around Michigan, the theme this year for reading month.  We hosted a family night, which was a great hit for the students and parents.  The elementary kids made their own mini parade to show off their spirit for the end of reading month! They had a lot of fun with their peers this month, getting to know Christopher Wright, and just having more time to read new books.
