ROSCOMMON – There’s something new coming to the AuSable River Center in Roscommon — ice skating!

Thanks to a grant from the Roscommon County Community Foundation, the Roscommon Area Recreation Authority (RARA) has purchased a new community ice rink under the pavilion. With help from the Higgins Township Fire Department, the rink will be filled with water and ready to go for the winter 2025–26 season.

Ice skating was listed among the top 10 recreation priorities in the 2024–2027 Recreation Open Space Master Plan for Roscommon, so the project meets and community goal

The pavilion at the River Center will make skating even better. Its solid concrete base helps maintain smooth ice, and the covered roof keeps the sun off the surface so the rink lasts longer into the season.

In the summer, the Roscommon Farmers Market calls the River Center home from May through October, bringing fresh produce, handmade goods, and friendly faces to the heart of town.

With the addition of the pavilion and ice rink, the River Center continues to develop as a hub of the community life.
