Cynthia Ann Irwin of Oscoda, Michigan; beloved mom, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend, died in Tawas, Mi., on August 19, 2025 at the age of 90.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cathy Kappius; sons, Clark and Mark Irwin; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Savoy Irwin; the extended Irwin and Knapp families; and her many friends.
Growing up in Indianapolis Indiana, she married her high school sweetheart, Major Donald E. Irwin (pre-deceased), and began traveling the world as a military wife and mother. We have many fond memories of our childhood, even while moving to new Air Force Bases, or when our dad was away on temporary duty in foreign countries.
Mom was a great mother to us, and she excelled in her every interest, including; cooking, home décor, oil painting, knitting, needlepoint, and quilting. In fact, she is one of the founding members of the local quilting guild where she is said to have generously offered her help, encouragement, and expertise to all of her many quilting friends. Her finished pieces have won many awards, both locally and at the national level. She was a voracious reader with weekly trips to the library, a beautiful letter writer, and she was a prolific quilter.
Our mom cherished her independence, and at the age of 90 was still driving herself everywhere, even up to just a few weeks ago. She will be dearly missed, and we are all so proud to have her creative legacy living on in our hearts, and on display in our homes. Family is planning a private Celebration of Life for later this year.Â
