NORTHERN MICHIGAN — Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced the appointment of several Northern Michigan professionals to state boards and commissions. All appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate.
Mackinac Island State Park Commission
Marlee Brown, a resident of Mackinac Island, has been reappointed to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission. Brown is co-owner of Arnold Freight and a professional artist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from the University of Michigan. Her new term begins April 13, 2025, and expires April 12, 2031.
Established in 1895, the Mackinac Island State Park Commission is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Mackinac State Historic Parks. The commission develops the mission, goals, policies, and strategic direction for the properties under its jurisdiction.
Michigan Veterans’ Memorial Park Commission
Floyd Crawford, of Baraga, has been appointed to the Michigan Veterans’ Memorial Park Commission as a representative of the general public. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Crawford currently serves as an on-call driver for the elder nutritional program with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. His term begins April 10, 2025, and ends December 18, 2026. He succeeds Danny Craig, whose term has concluded.
The Michigan Veterans’ Memorial Park Commission provides guidance on the development, maintenance, and management of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park in Lansing. The commission also oversees the park’s programs, security, and preservation efforts.
