ATLANTA, Mich. – MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena and Thunder Bay Community Health Service have partnered to bring digital X-ray and screening mammography services to the Atlanta area. Patients in the Atlanta area can now conveniently schedule a screening mammogram five days a week at Thunder Bay Community Health Service, 11899 M-32, Atlanta.
Brandy Mutschler, R.T. (R) (M) (MR), is a certified mammography technologist who provides screening mammograms and general X-ray services in Atlanta, Monday through Friday, from
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Screening mammography is a low-dose X-ray of the breast, used to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, when it is small and most treatable. Screening mammograms can detect 90 to 95 percent of breast cancers and is considered the best method for detecting breast cancer and the only screening method to lower mortality rates.
“It’s important that women starting at the age of 40 make a screening mammogram part of their annual physical even if they have no symptoms or family history of breast cancer. If a woman has a strong family history of pre-menopausal breast cancer, or inherited the BRCA1, BRCA2 gene strongly associated with breast cancer, she should begin screening mammograms earlier than age 40 and should discuss this with her physician,” and Ben Eggleston, M.D., board certified radiologist, MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.
Thunder Bay Community Health Service has primary care clinics in Hillman, Atlanta, Onaway, and Rogers City and two school-based health centers in the Cheboygan and Onaway Area Schools. Behavioral health counseling services are provided in several local community schools.
