New roof!

Local generosity pays for roof on historic Fife Lake school

FIFE LAKE – The Fife Lake Area Historical Society is proud to announce it has installed a new roof on the 1878 historical schoolhouse with the help of three special donors.

The inside of the building is a replica of area schools dating from the late 1800s. Local third graders, when studying the history of Michigan, spend a morning each season experiencing learning as it was back then. They also tour the Fife Lake Museum, Fire Barn, and walking historic plaques.

Tawni Deike and six cheerleaders from Forest Area High School needed volunteer hours for a scholarship. They got together with the Fife Lake Historical Society this Spring to help rake, clean up stones, and spread dirt at the museum and historical fire barn.  Board members Rod Larr (and son Chris), Dick Gilmour, Sue Nyce, Dan Weaver, Joyce Freiwald plus Ron Broering and Tom Freiwald got the job done with the help of these young ladies.  It was a “cool” job that day (37 degrees and windy) but a great collaboration and a job well done.
The Historical Society is always grateful for any help our generous citizens of Fife Lake. – Courtesy of Fife Lake Historical Society.

Donations for the roof include:

Great Lakes Energy People Fund granted $5,000.00 for the project.
Great Lakes Energy customers round up their monthly bills to the next highest dollar and this money is distributed to non-profit organizations and charities to benefit the people in their communities. (Call 1-888-485-2537 or visit gtlakes.com for details.)
