Betty J. White of Houghton Lake

Betty J. White, 73, of Houghton Lake passed away October 5, 2016 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

Betty was born on September 2, 1943 in Unionville to Herbert and Esther (Brinkman) Hoppe. She grew up in and graduated from high school in Ortonville. On June 5, 1971 in Lake Orion, she was married to Gerald M. White.

Mrs. White was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Houghton Lake Eagles, RSVP, and Roscommon County Literacy Council, along with being a tutor for area children. She worked with the activities at King’s Nursing Center for several years and enjoyed playing Bingo .

Surviving are her loving husband of 45 years, Gerald M. “Jerry” White of Houghton Lake; son, Shawn (Melissa) White of Simsonville, SC; and grandchildren, Emily, Maygen, and Gregory.

Also surivivng are sister, Robin(Mike) Lillich-Phillips of Ortonville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Carl White; and four sisters, Carol Welch, Sally Horbatuck, Pat Epler, and Lynette Hoppe.

Memorial services were conducted from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Rev. George Spencer officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Betty are asked to be directed to the Roscommon County Literacy Council.
