Edmund Walter Kolakowski of Houghton Lake

Edmund Walter Kolakowski, 68, of Houghton Lake passed away September 20, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side.

Edmund was born on June 27, 1948 in Trenton to Edmund and Lena (Stedman) Kolakowski. He grew up and attended school in the Trenton area before serving as a CN in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He served with the Seabees in Vietnam and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. Kolakowski was employed as a machine operator at Weyerhaeuser, Allied Chemical, and Home Depot. On September 9, 2001 in Houghton Lake, he was married to Mary Lou Schuett. He was a member of the Houghton Lake Moose Lodge, Houghton Lake Eagles, VFW, and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, and especially loved spending time with family.

Surviving are his loving wife of 15 years, Mary Lou Kolakowski of Houghton Lake; two daughters, Tamara (Ken) Butler of Mio, and Lisa (John) Cox of Carleton; son, Edmund (Danielle Cox) Kolakowski of Houghton Lake; and five grandchildren, Nick, Katelyn, Logan, Chelsea, and Sara.

Also surviving are brother, Joe (Kathy) Kolakowski of Indian River; two sisters, Rose McCormick of Rockwood, and Barb (Art) Walker of Wyandotte; brother-in-laws Jim and Mark Schuett of Houghton Lake who provided special care to Edmund in his last months; and several nieces and nephews.

Edmund was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Michael McCormick.

Memorial services for Edmund Walter Kolakowski will be conducted 2:00pm Saturday October 1, 2016 at the Houghton Lake Moose Lodge. Memorial contributions in memory of Edmund are asked to be directed to St. Jude Children Hospitals, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
