Get out there for the July 4 and more

We have so much going on in our area – ’tis the season for kayaking and canoeing, paddle boards, pontoons, and my favorite, tubing.

On land, the ATV’ are going strong and we’ve got enough hiking trails to keep you busy ALL summer. For indoor activities, we’ve got the CRAF Center (have you stopped by lately? They’ve got a great new look.), pool and bowling at Fred’, foosball and pool at Silver Stream, and museums – the Roscommon Historic Train Club, the Historic Society, and the AuSable River Center.

Gahagan Nature Center and both of our State parks – North and South Higgins – as well as the Roscommon Library, have kids AND adults activities. I’m excited to announce we’ve got a special Kids Calendar in the works – watch for more on that soon! Have you taken advantage of our area offerings? Get out there!

For special, once-a-year events, we’ve still got you covered! The 4th of July weekend starts on July 2 with a parade in Lyon Township at 10 a.m. on West Higgins Lake Road, starting at Phoenix Park. Did you know they have a kazoo band marching?

And on the actual 4thof July, the parade in the Village starts at 11 a.m. at Edna and 4th, and ends at the VFW. They’ve got floats, dance groups, musical entries, live animals and more. Lions Club has their chicken for sale right after the parade, and at 10:15 p.m. the famous 4th of July Fireworks start at the Fireman Training Grounds. Great way to celebrate our independence, with plenty of time in between for summer activities.

The following weekend, Saturday the 9th of July, you won’t want to miss the 47th Annual Roscommon Arts Festival! From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., a wide variety of fine art vendors, crafters, and more on the lawn of the CRAF Center and on Lake Street. This year we’ll also have live music by Greg Bogus, and the Lions Club will have their food truck, while another food vendor makes your veggies a lot more interesting. Get out there – admission and parking are free and you never know what treasure you’re going to find!
